Day 2-Tuesday

Day 2 started out with the flatmates and I making breakfast in the kitchen we share. It took us over an hour to make eggs, toast, beans and some other stuff. Apparently, beans and toast is a breakfast food here. Douglas and I then walked to town and matriculated. I had my passport checked, turned in 4 pages of medical forms and got assigned a doctor in the town. I think hung out in town for a few hours, including getting a St. Andrews mug, since my flatmates make tea at least 2 times a day. At about 3 pm, 4 of my friends, not that I like one all that much, and I went to East Sands, a beach by the old Cathedral and the pier. It was really cool to see ancient ruins. One of the kids, a Japanese student here for 4 years, had his camera and took lots of great pictures of us. One photo that I have always wanted to do we did, many times, 4 of us all jumping in the air. (Some of the pictures are on this blog). The water was not as icy cold as I thought it would be. But after more than an hour I was really bored and cold! At dinner, at the bistro, I sat with a random guy, not my friends I came with; I thought I would branch out, plus I was already talking to him at the table when they sat down at another table. The guy, Chris, is a postgrad here (all pg’s here= one year) from Longbeach State in California. He played basketball there. I was not surprised he was very tall. The whole time we talked about basketball and sports. It was great!! The people in my flat do not understand my/ US people’s obsession with sports, especially KU basketball. (I showed them a pregame video at a KU vs. MU game, they did not understand why we did that and that it was for a sporting event). Tonight, day 3, and day 4, at dinner, the dessert is a type of warm dense bread/cake, almost like corn bread with warm thick, very thick, cream that you can put on it. IT IS SO GOOD!!!! Oh my God! Even on day 3 when it was a warm apple crumb cake/pie thing. It is amazing! I hope I do not gain the fresher’s 15 again!!! At night, I wanted to go to a bonfire at the other beach, West Sands, it is a little closer to us, I think. But my flatmates were all very very drunk and were going to the orientation week event, which I did not have a ticket for, and I did not want to walk there by myself in the dark and then back. The buses did not run at that time and I didn’t know how to get /how much a taxi was, especially how to get one on the way back. It was also an event put on by the Leftist Society, which is not really my thing. So I just chilled in my room. I did put a big, 4 feet by 3 feet, KU/Jayhawk flag up over my bed up :)
