hiking

I am working on catching up on my blogging from the last week. However, today...  I decided to wake up at 7:20, be on a bus by 8am and after more then 3 hours of driving, start hiking. The Breakaway Society, a club I joined has about 6 hiking trips a semester. Some are day trips and some are weekends. This was the first one, a day trip to Loch Tay. I decided to hike the low-medium trial and see some ruins. The low-medium group split to the low-low-medium and the low-medium-high. I choice the former. At first it was okay, even though it was raining and we had to walk about 30 minuets to get to the start of the hiking. I saw lots of cute sheep! Then, our guide, some girl my age, decided that we were going to walk up a mountain instead of seeing ruins. So, we walked up a steep steep hill, in the rain, though a marsh for about an hour. I was running out of water and my boot was no longer visible in a puddle of water most of the places I stepped. 3 people turned back early. I was determined to finish and not have a repeat of Little Devils Peak (mom will understand). We got really close to the top, and closer and closer and then closer and then there was more, so closer and more, and then we all said that was good. And we started down, it reminded me of skiing with my dad, down a tough run that we had to traverse the mountain and go slowly. oh and on the way up my leg fell in a muddy hole! We could not find the path, and when we did, we walked and walked and walked.. and I was wet. The inside of my rain jacket was wet! I did not think I could make it, the balls of my feet hurt so badly. Then a car, a breakaway girl gave us a ride the last stretch (probably 20 minuets of walking). We were going to go to a pub, but everyone was so wet we just wanted to go back. I was so cold. I had a fleece with me, but it was wet, everything in my backpack and on me and I was wet! We got back around 7:40pm Here are some pictures, next post, of this "fun" day- that I am never doing again.

  1. ha ha. I was watching golf at St Andrews on Saturday. The tournament is continuing on Sunday (!!) on the Old Course. Everyone was wearing coats, ski hats and long sleeves. Obviously, these guys were not scots. They were wearing shorts.
